Abitur and International Baccalaureate (IB)

Cultural Enrichment and Academic Advancement for High-Ability Students through an Integrated Teaching and Learning Model
Presentation, Karmen Heup, IB Coordinator

In some countries, state schools with a focus on international education have developed synergistic approaches to teaching the state-mandated curriculum in conjunction with the International Diploma Programme. They choose subjects which align best with both diplomas, devise supplemental classes and tutorials which carefully combine requirements and recognize the specific need for differentiation and the adoption of strategies and teaching methods which encourage students to become responsible for their own learning. The integrated teaching and learning model 'Abitur and International Baccalaureate' for high-ability students in Germany will serve as an example to illustrate how a dual course system can be efficiently put into practice in order to foster cultural enrichment and academic advancement.
